Crafted from Irish oak reclaimed from decommissioned whiskey barrels used at the world-renowned Midleton Distillery in County Cork, this pen blends heritage, elegance, and craftsmanship into a singular gift.

Each stave is carefully turned by hand, releasing the faint aroma of Irish whiskey as the lathe brings the grain to life. The reddish hue of the oak comes from years of maturing fine spirits, making every pen a sensory reminder of Ireland’s rich distilling tradition. No two are ever alike, making this a perfect gift for Irish whiskey connoisseurs or anyone who appreciates meaningful craftsmanship.

We fit every pen with a premium Swiss-made rollerball refill containing water-based ink that flows effortlessly, like a river of thought from mind to paper. A spare refill is included. The pen accepts all international standard-sized rollerball refills, readily available online, in stationers, or from our website.

Our pens are handmade using salvaged or wind-fallen Irish wood—no trees are felled for our craft. With every pen sold, a native Irish tree is planted in partnership with the Tree Council of Ireland. By using a refillable pen, you also help reduce the billions of plastic biros that end up in landfill each year.

Handmade oak finished pen gift box upgrade

Enhance your presentation with our handcrafted oak finished box, inspired by the Book of Kells and made in our Kells workshop. Sized at 180mm x 116mm x 45mm, the box features custom walnut rests to cradle one or two pens. Engraved messages can be added to the inner lid for personal or corporate gifting.

Crafted in Ireland’s heritage capital

Each Shannon pen is made entirely by hand over a three-day process using only traditional tools. The wood for your pen will be taken from the same batch of whiskey barrel oak as shown, ensuring a rich heritage and character in every pen we craft.  That is your assurance of a pen as unique as the person who holds it. Crafted from Irish Whiskey Oak barrel staves, sourced via our Cork supplier, direct from the distillery. No separate certificate of authenticity is issued. Each pen takes approximately three days to craft.
