The blue carbon fibre is set in crystal clear acrylic; we hand turn it as we do our wood pens and finish it to an ultra-high shine so the carbon fibre can be enjoyed from any angle you hold it. We installed an all-Swiss-made ballpoint refill with Swiss ink and Swiss components to ensure the pen delivers the best writing experience. Replacement refills are available worldwide.

In 1860, Sir Joseph Wilson Swan used carbon fibre in the early incandescent light bulb. Using a baking process called "pyrolysis," he turned cotton or bamboo at very high temperatures into carbon to make the filament of light bulbs. When tungsten became the light bulb filament of choice in the early 1900s, carbon fibre was rendered obsolete for the next 50 years or so.
The first petroleum-based carbon fibres were accidentally produced in 1958; in the '60s, Rolls Royce used carbon fibre in its jet engines.
Since the late 1970s, improved manufacturing processes have reduced production costs and improved strength and elasticity. This led engineers in the 1990s and 2000s to finally fully understand the vast potential of carbon fibre in various manufacturing applications, making it a favourite design choice today. So, while not as old as the fountain pen itself, it is not as modern as you may have thought!
