Woodland ballpoint (Titanium Gold) Irish Elm | Fact Sheet

Your pen is called a

Woodland ballpoint in Irish Elm with jewellery-grade Titanium Gols and Rhodium accents

The wooden body of your pen was hand-turned, the pen assembled, and posted, all from our workshop in Ireland's heritage capital, Kells County Meath, by Catherine & Richard Daly.

  • The wood in your pen:

At the heart of your hand-crafted pen lies Irish Elm — a rare and treasured wood, found only in quiet corners of our land. Its grain swirls and dances in patterns that seem wild and whimsical, almost as if nature herself decided to scribble her thoughts across the surface. There's a kind of beautiful chaos in its lines — no order, no rules — just pure, natural artistry that makes each piece utterly unique.

This particular elm comes from the gentle midlands of Ireland, where time moves a little slower. We were fortunate to receive it from a retired clockmaker, a craftsman who had spent over 30 years collecting offcuts of this elm — pieces too small for his delicate work, yet too lovely to discard. In his hands, they waited quietly all those years, until they found new purpose in ours.

Now, that same wood lives on in your pen — a small piece of Ireland’s story, full of character, history, and heart.

  • The trim of your pen:

The pen trim is jewellery-grade Rhodium with Titanium Gold Rhodium accents, which complements the beautiful Irish Elm.

  • Advance the refill:

To advance or retract the refill, twist the pen cap; the twist mechanism is German-manufactured for smooth, positive operation.

  • The refill in your pen:

Your pen is a ballpoint pen using a Parker-type ballpoint refill. With its oil-based ink, the refill delivers an excellent, easy writing experience. The advantage of the ballpoint is its versatility across surfaces; it dries quickly and is not prone to smudging. This refill is widely available in all good stationery stores and on our website. Click this link to order the refill for this pen.

  • How to change the refill

At Irish Pens, we are delighted to pay homage to the woods at the heart of our handmade pen by sponsoring the planting of Native Irish Trees in the forest of Avoca, Co. Wicklow, Ireland, through the Tree Council of Ireland's tree sponsorship scheme. A proportion of the sale of your pen has made this possible.

The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago; the next best time is now.

  • About Your Presentation Box

Each pen is housed in a satin-lined luxury case and sheathed in a plush black velvet pouch, offering a refined unboxing experience worthy of its heritage.

Over four billion plastic pens and their packaging go to landfills in the USA alone yearly. When the refill is empty, change it and keep using your pen. It's all the small things we do that help the environment.

If you have any questions about your pen, please contact us at richard@irishpens.ie. We will be delighted to chat with you; please enjoy your pen.
