The wooden body of your pen was hand-turned, the pen assembled, and posted, all from our workshop in Ireland's heritage capital, Kells, County Meath, by Catherine & Richard Daly. 

  • The wood in your pen:

Purpleheart Wood

Purpleheart is a striking exotic hardwood native to Central and South America, renowned for its naturally rich purple colour.

The beautiful colour you see in your pen is entirely natural — no dyes, stains or artificial colouring are added. It is simply the colour nature gave the wood, and we see no reason to change it.

In our workshop, we carefully hand-turn, sand and finish each piece of Purpleheart to a smooth, high-quality finish. This protects the timber while keeping its distinctive colour and natural grain as the centrepiece of the pen.

And because no two pieces of timber are ever exactly alike, the grain and colour of your Purpleheart pen are as individual as your fingerprints.

  • The trim of your pen:

The pen trim is jewellery-grade Rhodium with Titanium gold accents, which complements the beautiful Purple Heart.

  • Advance the refill:

To advance and retract the refill, twist the pen cap; the twist mechanism is German-manufactured to deliver a smooth but positive operation

  • The refill in your pen:

Your pen uses a Parker-type ballpoint refill. With its oil-based ink, the refill delivers an excellent, easy writing experience. The advantage of the ballpoint is the versatility of surfaces it will write on; it's quick to dry and not prone to smudging.   • How to change the refill

 

At Irish Pens, we are delighted to pay homage to the woods at the heart of our handmade pen by sponsoring the planting of Native Irish Trees in the forest of Avoca, Co. Wicklow, Ireland, through the Tree Council of Ireland's tree sponsorship scheme. A proportion of the sale of your pen has made this possible.

 The pen case:

Each pen is housed in a satin-lined luxury case and sheathed in a plush black velvet pouch, offering a refined unboxing experience for you, worthy of its heritage.

We post our pen in a Jiffy Green padded mailer with no bubble wrap, and the bag that holds the pen and the information card is fully recyclable..

Over 4 billion plastic pens and their packaging go to landfill in the USA alone every year, so when your refill is empty, simply change it and keep using your pen. Its all the small things we do that help the environment.
