Fountain pen and ballpoint writing pen gift set in bog oak from our Woodland range | Fact Sheet

The name of your pen set is

"Fountain pen and ballpoint writing pen gift set in bog oak from our Woodland range"

The wooden body of your pen was hand-turned, assembled, and posted, all from our workshop in Ireland's heritage capital, Kells County Meath, by Catherine & Richard Daly.

  • The wood in your pen:

Irish Bog Oak is at the heart of your hand-crafted pen. This extraordinary wood predates the Pyramids, embodying a legacy over 5,000 years old. Its allure lies in its distinct feel, rich colour, and profound history. To preserve these qualities, we finished your pen using the finest beeswax, just as Ireland's best Bog Oak sculptors do, allowing you to experience the full depth of its ancient heritage every time you hold it. Just as Ireland's literary giants crafted timeless works, let this pen inspire your own creativity.

  • The trim of your pen:
The fountain pen is a jewellery-grade Titanium Gold with Rhodium accents.
Your ballpoint pen mirrors the fountain pen with Rhodium with Titanium gold accents. Designed to be more than just a beautiful set of pens—they are also a conduit for your thoughts to be set out on paper and cherished forever.
The trim is luxurious and complements Irish Bog Oak's beautiful darkness.
  • The refill in your ballpoint pen:

Your pen is a ballpoint pen using a Parker-type ballpoint refill. With its oil-based ink, the refill delivers an excellent, easy writing experience. The ballpoint's advantage is the variety of surfaces it will write on; it is quick to dry and not prone to smudging. This refill is widely available in all good stationery stores and on our website.

  • How to change the refill
How to fill your fountain pen:

To insert the ink cartridge, unscrew the nib section from the pen and push the ink cartridge into the section until you feel it click into place. A gentle squeeze of the cartridge may be required to get the ink flowing for the first time.

If using the ink pump, fit it to the pen in the same way as the cartridge and twist the plunger to expel all the air from the reservoir, place the nib below the ink level in the ink bottle and twist the pump to draw up ink from the bottle, dry off any external ink, you can now reassemble the pen and you are ready to start writing. Use gloves for this process to protect your hands from the ink, and use tissue to protect the area from spills. Don’t forget to put the cap back on the bottle!
Keep the cap on the fountain pen when not in use to prevent the ink in the nib from drying out. As with all fountain pens, you can flush the nib and feed to clean them if you notice a change in the ink flow over time. See our website for a video on how to do this.
Irish Pens is delighted to pay homage to the woods at the heart of our handmade pen by sponsoring the planting of Native Irish Trees in the forest of Avoca, Co. Wicklow, Ireland, through the Tree Council of Ireland's tree sponsorship scheme. A proportion of the sale of your pen has made this possible.

The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago; the next best time is now.

  •  The pen case:
We supply your pen in a stylish black case to protect it and ensure it is always at hand. We moved away from single-use pen boxes because putting a pen box in the bin is not part of our philosophy of reducing waste wherever possible.

We post our pen in a Jiffy Green padded mailer with no bubble wrap, and the bag that holds the pen and the information card is fully recyclable.

Over 4 billion plastic pens and their packaging go to landfills in the USA alone every year, so when the refill is empty, change it and keep using your pen. It is all the small things we do that help the environment.
